J. Crew “Sophia” dress – fit/feel?
I really like the “Sophia” dress on the J. Crew Web site. I have 2 formal weddings to go to at the end of the year, and I’ve love to wear this. Do most J. Crew stores have this on the rack? Ideally, I’d want to try it on first if possible.
Can someone please tell me what it’s like to wear? Is it flattering to most body types, or do you have to have a certain kind of body to pull it off? It’s made of silk, so how does it feel when you wear it?
Also, how do J. Crew clothes run, in reference to size? I’m currently a 14/16, so I don’t think I could pull this off right now. But hopefully I can lose some weight in a few months. The biggest size they carry is 14, so is that true to size, or would you need to be a 12 or even a 10 to fit into it? Also, I hear that it’s not good for girls with larger chests. I am a 36C, think I’d be OK?
Here’s the dress … I would get it in black: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod62983371
Thanks!
I have tried on this dress at J. Crew before…it is a very fattering cut, and it is very comfortable. The only problem, for me at least, was the price, so i didn’t buy it (I was low on funds at the time!) But it looked really good on, it felt great, and it fit very well, even though I’m kind of an apple shape (bigger in the middle, smaller in the legs).
Also One of my good friends wore the Sophia dress as her wedding dress (long length and in cream). She is a size 8 or 10, and it looked BEAUTIFUL on her! She may have had it altered to fit her better, I’m not quite sure, but she looked amazing in it.
J. Crew sizes acutally tend to run big. I can usually fit into a size smaller at J. Crew than at most other stores (specifically department stores). If you are normally a 14/16, you should be able to fit into a 14. The only problem might be the chest area of the dress. With a 36 C, it should fit your chest, but it may feel too revealing, depending on what you’re comfortable with. I’d just make sure you try it on in the store first. Otherwise, you can always order it online, try it, and then send it back if it doesn’t fit!
I’m sure the dress will look beautiful on you, I hope it works out!

Star Trek (Two-Disc Edition) $1.00 J.J. Abrams’ 2009 feature film was billed as “not your father’s Star Trek,” but your father will probably love it anyway. And what’s not to love? It has enough action, emotional impact, humor, and sheer fun for any moviegoer, and Trekkers will enjoy plenty of insider references and a cast that seems ideally suited to portray the characters we know they’ll become later. Both a prequel and a reboot,… |
