This is actually the oldest form of photography dating back as early as 500 B.C. Its roots are in Greek antiquity and its in a way the foundation of present day accomplishments in photography. Unlike in other forms, in pinhole photography one can only use the traditional glass lens camera which requires much time in exposure since the image process depends a lot on the aperture and light focusing.
To achieve good quality pictures in pinhole photography, it will much depend on the size of the hole letting in the light. For instance the smaller the pinhole, the clear the picture and if the hole has edges it affects quality of the image. The best pinhole however is the absolutely round one and made in thin pieces of materials that allow light to pass through. We should also note that its through understanding how the light traveled inside enclosed dark space with a small hole in it that inspired dark rooms, which are the technological principle behind pinhole and modern cameras.
Its advantages include soft pictures with field depth, allow application of certain optic physical theories to other fields of research and helps understand certain curiosities from the wild. Specifically mollusk species that sees in similar manner as formation pinhole pictures. Disadvantages are pictures taken on it have limited modifications and chromatic variations.
Pinhole photography has taken a new dimension in today’s world. For instance its used to develop spy cameras, and also by people who consider photography a real hobby. Professionals will normally experiment with it for creativity purposes. However its still common and there are online galleries. I would advise you check them out.
