Spy Bias
Are news reporters just frustrated novelists?

Read some of the news articles in Yahoo! News and tell me what you think of the writing style.

Headline: “India terror begins with corpses on train platform ” The story itself is like the opener of a spy novel. The facts are padded with a ot of story telling to take you to the scene and put the feel of the event into your mind.

Here’s another, “After mother’s slaying, daughter awaits dad’s fate”

You can just about pick out any story and instead of just stating the facts, the reporter feels the need to weave a tale.

Whatever happened to just reporting the facts without bias and without storytelling? Are news reporters just frustrated novelists?
I read a lot of technical materials. I also write and edit technical documentation. I want direct facts and reliable information. I have no patience for storytelling in the news.

Hardly novelists, more like frustrated news anchors. They have to run around and feed questions to the people and would prefer to sit in a nice warm comfy news room instead. They are too egocentric to sit down and have the discipline to write a novel .
