How to repair a snowboard jacket?
I have a burnt a hole in my snowboard jacket, 3 by 6-8inches, is there an easy and cheap way to repair it. I’ve stuck it over with duct tape, but it’s not really keeping the cold or wet out too well.
That’s a pretty good size hole.
If your coat is just a shell, I suggest very carefully removing the liner at the seam closest to the hole. You will need some tweezers and a fine tip small set of scissors. Cut away the lining very carefully until you can see the whole burn hole from the inside of the garment. Then you can stitch the hole back together from the inside out and then cover the hole with seam sealing tape. You should be able to get that stuff from most higher end camping stores or maybe even at a good fabric store. After you stitch up the hole, tape all the exposed threads and follow all the directions with the tape. Then carefully Stick up the seams after you are done. You may have to use the tape on the liner seam as well, so be sure you buy enough to fix the hole and seal up your liner too.
If you have an insulated jacket and the burn has gone through the batting as well as the shell it would be best to send the jacket to someplace for repair. Perhaps you can contact your manufacturer for a repair policy and prices. If you live in the northeast USA, you can contact Eastern Mountain Sports. The have a very good repair department. A bit pricey on waterproof garments, but they do excellent work.
For a hole that size, it may just be best to get in touch with the manufacturer, they will probably have to sew in a patch.
