Snowmobile check up, what to ask for when you bring your sled to the dealer for a tune up?
I bought a 2005 Polaris XC SP 500. I am going to bring it to a dealer shortly to have them check it out (so it doesn’t blow up trail riding for unknown reasons) So what should I ask for?
Some things already wrong:
Speedometer not working
Clutchkit? It doesn’t engage till 4,000 RPMs
Also, can I put synthetic oil in it even if the oil in right now isn’t? I’m not sure what the guy had in it for oil
Speedo doesn’t work because track drive bearing was not greased
4000 RPM engagement is fine, a clutch kit will make it engage at higher RPM’s (so will a stiffer primary spring)
Drain the existing oil and add synthetic
Dealer Checklist:
Compression check
Grease entire sled (suspension, track drive, etc…)
Check chaincase chain for stretching, check gears for abnormal wear
Check/lube throttle cable
Check the track for rips/tears, missing clips
Check all fuel/oil lines for cracks
Check all wheel bearings
Check cooling system for leaks/loss of pressure
Check carb boots for cracks
Make sure carbs are synched
Check skis for damage
Check front suspension for worn bushings
Check the brake pads/rotor
Replace the brake fluid
