Although I love natural trees, a part of me believes they belong outdoors, instead of cut from their roots to die and festively decorated for our amusement. This is not to belittle natural Christmas tree fans, as most are farmed in a sustainable manner, and despite however traditional, it just seems a bit odd to me to kill trees for Christmas.
One idea I love, is that of a reusable tree, one that can be easily setup and enjoyed year after year. Obviously a live one in your yard fits this bill, should you be so lucky, but most of us aren’t, and besides, we may want one indoors as well.
I love aluminum Christmas trees, first available in the late 1950s and the popularized in the 1960s. My grandparents had one when I was a kid, and they reused it every year. It was a silver Christmas tree, but trees are also available in many other colors like red, blue, etc.
They are also economical as you don’t need to buy a new one every year, and naturals are expensive, even in rural New England not to mention big cities where they may have been transported long distances. No watering, no needles to periodically pick up, nothing to dispose of after the holidays, and limited if any setup fuss and you’ve got a winner for many people!
I also just love the look of a shimmering aluminum tree. There is no attempt to hide anything, just a reproduction or tribute to the beauty of nature!
