It’s a metaphor in which he uses a silk tent to describe a certain woman, and the ropes, by which the tent is bound, to love, by which the woman is bound.
It’s about the tent’s/woman’s balance between being tied down (by rope/by love) and being free.
If you’ve ever handled silk, it’s very light and fluid, almost like water. He gives a sense of the tent/woman being very centered and balanced, so that it/she are grounded, yet reaching toward the sky. They’re both firmly held, but because they’re so grounded and centered (physically for the tent, emotionally or mentally for the woman), they flow easily in the summer breezes and are hardly aware at all of being held down by anything, of not being free. It’s a gentle bondage.
