Best SLR camera/lens for photo student/avid traveler?
I’ve read a lot of debate about Nikon vs Canon, and I don’t know what’s best. I’m looking into grad school for photo, and I want a professional quality camera. I’ve read about the Rebels and D40, 50, 80 and all. I just do NOT know where to start! Any serious advice from knowledgeable people would be SO appreciated. Thank you!
ALSO, how much would it cost to repair a Canon AE-1? It’s got a problem where the film doesn’t get pulled all the way though, so I ended up with a roll of half-images.

The Nikon D90 is probably a good combination of quality, features, and cost. The Nikon D5000 lacks a few features and costs a bit less. It is lighter.
