What do demo bindings mean for skis i’m looking at online?
ok so i’m looking at either purchasing the k2 apache sidewinder or k2 apache raider skis offline. on the description for both, it says they include marker m 9.0 demo bindings? what does the demo mean? and what does the 9.0 mean? thank you
In addition to regular rental skis, you can rent high-end skis. These are called “demo” skis, because you are generally trying out a specific model of skis that you’re thinking of buying.
So, that would mean that the bindings are ones intended to be used on demo skis, in other words, ones that can handle being adjusted and re-adjusted day in and day out. You can certainly still use them for a pair of skis you buy, but compared to non-demo bindings they may sit a few mm higher or be a tad heavier.
The 9.0 is just part of the brand name…it probably means that way back in the day they came out with something called “marker m”, then later they improved on it and called that the “marker m 2.0″, and now they’ve improved on it a further 7 times. Kind of like a 2009 car versus a 2000.
By the way, as long as we’re talking about “demo” stuff…if you can, go demo skis that are identical to the ones you’re considering buying, so you can know which ones feel best to you. Generally when you demo, you pay for a day or half a day, and you can swap skis for free as many times as you like during that time. Last winter I demoed 5 pairs before I decided on the ones that I wanted. I mean, it’s not likely that either of the pairs you’re considering would totally suck for you, but it’d be good to know which of the two works better for you, and as long as you’ve already paid the money, go ahead and try some other skis to see if anything else out there is even better still for your specific ability/stance/shape/weight/etc.
