It is truly amazing how many concepts have been created by science fiction writers in the past. Likewise, it is incredible how many of these technologies now exist today simply because someone imagined it was possible, and put those ideas out there for future generations to grab onto and say; “hey, we can do that!”
Consider if you will the famous example of Arthur C. Clarke’s net centric satellite system. Eventually that was built and called iridium, and it provided communication worldwide, anywhere on the planet. Amazing isn’t it? Did you know cell phone towers and an entire system was also created originally in a science fiction story?
How about the new high-energy laser systems that are used now by the United States Air Force and for missile defense systems? All that was once Sci-Fi, so too was nuclear energy. Even traveling to the moon in space ships, or modern-day submarines, all started out as science fiction concepts, they were stories in novels. Isn’t that cool?
It is amazing how the science fiction of today will be the same technologies we can use tomorrow. The first thing that must happen is someone must have the imagination, and creativity to dream it. They must look at current sciences and try to project that into the future. They must look at discoveries that are happening now, and take from theories what might be possible into the future.
Once they do that, once it is imagined, it will eventually be created. Have you ever wondered what current Sci-Fi trends may actually become innovations of our future? Well, if you read as much science fiction as I do, you know that artificial intelligence will be a big part of our lives in the future, and we are creating those technologies now.
The same thing is occurring in nanotechnology, life extension in biotech, and even in particle physics at CERN. And all of these things will lead to incredible cures for diseases, DNA therapy, wormhole space travel, sending messages back and forth in time. Imagine all the things that are possible? Amazing, the trends in science fiction, and the fact that life follows art, and you can truly see how the future will unfold. Please consider all this.
