Who is Dr. Lyn Evans of Aberdare? And is he another Dr. Frankenstein, but on a galactic or universal scale? Does he really know what he’s doing adn the potential risk he’s subjeceting our planet? The British physicist has claimed he can explain the secrets of the Big Bang Theory, but his controversial experiment has scientists believing he could bring about the end of the world as well.
For centuries, scientists have sought unsuccessfully to unlock the secrets of the Big Bang Theory — a model explaining the birth of the universe. But, a scientist from England, popularly known as “Evans the Atom,” claims to know the answers, and will test his experiment on Wednesday by using a 17-mile-long doughnut-shaped tunnel that will smash sub-atomic particles together at the speed of light, the Mail reported.

Evans’ ambitions have brought widespread concern among scientists who say the experiment could create a shower of unstable black holes inside the Earth, and subsequently bring destruction to the planet. “Nothing will happen for at least four years,” said retired German Otto Rossler “Then someone will spot a light ray coming out of the Indian Ocean during the night and no one will be able to explain it.” Talk about weird science! But I’m not too worried about it because the Mayan calendar says we’re good til 2012.
And it’s right isn’t it?
The biggest, most expensive experiment in history is attracting both scientific hyperbole and hysteria. Some say it will reveal the universe’s secrets and lead to the elusive Theory of Everything. A few fear that unleashing unimaginable power beneath the Swiss countryside will result in the end of the world.
The Holy Grail of science and the never found search of Albert Einstein was the one all-encompassing theory of everything. A unifying theory providing one explanation for the forces at work in the natural world, from the nucleus of an atom to the movements of the planets. Sounds like alchemy to non-scientists, but some very respectable minds believe it is possible, and that the collider may show the way.
So if you are worried, better take out an insurance policy before Wednesday, but then, who would be around to pay the premium?
